Police have arrested a man they believe is part of a group who viciously attacked two men in the northern Wellington suburb of Porirua.
And they are not ruling out more arrests.
At about 3am on Sunday December 6, two men, aged 34 and 37, were assaulted as they walked along Mungavin Ave.
Both men suffered head injuries and were taken to Wellington Hospital, where the 37-year-old remains.
Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Ferguson, of Porirua police, said the man was starting to show "slow signs of improvement".
The 34-year-old was released after a few hours.
Yesterday, a 21-year-old man was arrested in Porirua, and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Mr Ferguson said inquiries were continuing and he would not rule out the prospect of further arrests.
