The body of an international student who was swept away while swimming in an estuary near Napier has been located by the police dive squad.
A police spokesman confirmed the body was located this afternoon around 2pm, near where the 16-year-old male went missing.
He was swimming with a companion in the shared estuary of the Ngaruroro, Clive and Tutaekuri Rivers in Awatoto, near Clive, when he disappeared from view shortly before 4pm on Saturday, police said.
The companion was unable to locate him and was subsequently assisted himself by other members of the public from the water.
Emergency services were notified at 3.55pm yesterday and a major search operation was launched, involving police, fire services, coast guard, ambulance, a helicopter and local surf lifesaving clubs.
