A 21-year-old has been arrested for smuggling enough ephedrine to make 7kg of methamphetamine.
Customs and police officers swooped on an address in Yaldhurst, Christchurch, after discovering 14.6kg of the white crystalline substance inside a consignment from Malaysia.
Seven kilos of 'P' has a street value of up to $7
million.
Customs Investigations Manager Maurice O'Brien said the cost of the social harm of that much meth could reach $3 million.
The man is charged with importation and possession for supply of a class B controlled drug and will appear in the Christchurch District Court this morning.
