A fake gun caused three schools in Wainuiomata to be put into lockdown this afternoon.
Police were called out to a Parkway address in Wainuiomata for a disorder incident with reports of men fighting about 2pm, Central Police spokesman John Spence said.
When officers arrived they saw a large knife and a gun inside the house.
Police retreated and wait for further staff, setting up cordons in the area, and re-entering the property after two men were "detained".
Officers found a fake gun inside, Mr Spence said.
"It was just an imitation firearm, a toy. AOS weren't called out or anything like that. It was pretty much no dramas," Mr Spence said.
"I think it was just before schools came out so we just held the schools closed for a couple of minutes, if that."
Further enquiries showed a family violence incident had occurred at the address before police arrived.
The incident would be followed up on, police said.
"No members of the public were at risk and police would like to thank the local schools for their assistance in ensuring the students remained safe within the school grounds," police said.
Family violence incidents can be reported to police on 111 or via CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
