Muliaina Arest: Club says they became aware of police 'immediately prior to kick off'

Mils Muliaina's rugby club have revealed they became aware of the South Wales Police's intention to speak with the ex-All Black before he took to the field in Gloucester last weekend.

Muliaina was taken away by police in Gloucester after the final whistle was blown and interviewed in relation to an alleged sexual assault on a 19-year-old in Cardiff last month.

The 34-year-old player hasn't been charged and has denied any wrong-doing.

Connacht Rugby released a statement today that said the club became aware of police's desire to speak with Muliaina "immediately prior to kick off" in Gloucester.

Police would not reveal the nature of the enquiry to the club, Connacht Rugby said.

Muliaina is currently recovering from an injury, but, subject to fitness, would remain available for selection by coach Pat Lam, the statement said.

Connacht Rugby said an internal review of the circumstances surrounding Muliaina being interviewed by police had been completed.

Muliaina joined Connacht Rugby at the start of the Northern Hemisphere rugby season, and is due to move to Italian club Zebre at the end of the season.

He played 100 tests for the All Blacks and was part of the World Cup-winning side in 2011.
