The man murdered in Whangamata early yesterday has been identified by police.
He was Ivan Peter Kapluggin, 76, a UK passport-holder with a New Zealand residence visa, who resided in Thailand.
Police said the post-mortem procedures were complete and police would continue examining the scene of the murder.
Detective Senior Sergeant Graham Pitkethley said Mr Kapluggin died from wounds.
"The post-mortem examination completed in Auckland yesterday confirmed Mr Kapluggin died as a result of wounds, we will need to wait until the completion of the on-going scene examination before we can identify what or if any weapons were used in relation to Mr Kapluggin's death.
"As this examination continues an occupant from the address is continuing to assist our team with our enquiries."
Mr Pitkethley said Police are still appealing for anyone who has had recent contact with the victim or in the vicinity of the property early Tuesday morning, or who hasn't already spoken to detectives, to contact the enquiry team at the Whangamata Police Station on 07 865 0300.
