Five balaclava-clad offenders burst into a Northland home with a firearm and other weapons, police say.
The home invasion in Tinopai, on the Kaipara Harbour, on Saturday evening is being investigated by police.
Three adults and two teenage boys were at home when the home invasion occurred about 5.30pm.
One offender had a firearm and others were carrying weapons, police said.
The home occupants were assaulted, and one managed to escape to a neighbouring house for help.
The offenders left in a car, possibly a blue Toyota Corolla, which headed north on Tinopai Rd.
Police are talking to the victims, who were taken to Whangarei Hospital with minor and moderate injuries.
