Police in Christchurch attended four out-of-control student parties at Riccarton addresses overnight.
Inspector Murray Hurst said police were called when the behaviour of the party-goers turned disorderly.
"They were playing up, there's no two ways about it."
"They were student parties with bonfires or couch-fires and the fire service were called and we were called," Mr Hurst said.
He said he couldn't confirm that police officers had bottles thrown at them.
