Three men have appeared in court today over the armed robbery of a Mexican tourist.

Vincent Ricki Evan Hajnal-Huata, 19 and Ferenc Hajnal-Huata, 22, brothers from the Northern Hawkes Bay settlement of Raupunga, are jointly charged with Napier man Hawi Robert Kingi, 17, with robbing the tourist of personal belongings valued at $2500.

The trio allegedly did so while armed with a pistol. Vincent Hajnal-Huata is also charged with unlawful possession of a .22 calibre bolt action rifle and possession of cannabis.

Kingi also faces a charge of burglary, and charges of intentionally damaging a memory stick and theft of a camera, both the property of New Zealand police.

As a result of the inquiry, Ferenc Hajnal-Huata's twin brother, Paris, was charged with cultivation and possession of cannabis.

In Gisborne District Court today, all four were remanded in custody by consent until May 28, when they are expected to apply for bail.
