Pedestrian critical following Gore crash

A 19-year-old man is in a critical condition after being hit by a car near Gore last night.

The man suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle on the Waimea Highway, State Highway 94, six kilometres North of Gore around 8.40pm last night, police said.

A Dunedin police spokesman said the man was a pedestrian who had left a vehicle shortly before being hit.

The man was flown by helicopter to Dunedin Hospital following the crash and remains in a critical condition.

Police enquiries into the cause of the crash were continuing with the assistance of a number of witnesses.
