A driving instructor was critically injured when a car being driven by teenage girl collided with a truck on the outskirts of Te Awamutu this morning.
Emergency services were called to the crash on State Highway 3 about 10.35am.
"Initial indications are that the crash occurred after a northbound car driven by a teenage girl lost control and ended up colliding with a southbound truck," said Inspector Freda Grace.
A driving instructor who was a passenger in the young woman's car suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Waikato Hospital in a status one condition.
He was initially trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut free.
The drivers of the car and truck did not suffer serious injuries but were taken to Waikato Hospital for a check-up.
Another driver stopped at the scene and spoke to the distraught teenager before speeding off. Police wanted to speak to that man and any other witnesses.
