Motorists are being warned to take care on slippery roads today and leave plenty of time to get to destinations.

At this stage no major highways are congested, however many roads will be slippery from wet weather, said Transport Agency spokesman Anthony Frith.

"We do ask people if they are travelling to take a lot of care, watch themselves on corners and keep their speeds down.''

Motorists can check highway conditions at www.nzta.govt.nz before heading on a journey.
