A Blenheim home was extensively damaged in a fire last night.

The Fire Service was called to the Rata Place house at 7.15pm to find it well ablaze, said southern communications shift manager Brent Dunn.

Five fire trucks attended the fire, four from Blenheim and one from Renwick.

Despite initial reports someone may have been inside the house, no one was found inside, Mr Dunn said.

"The single storey, two bedroom house has been extensively damaged."

Fire safety officers are now investigating the cause of the blaze.
