Two men robbed an elderly Remuera woman of her car and hundreds of dollars in cash after confronting her in her home in the upmarket Auckland suburb.
Police said the 75-year-old woman, who lives alone, went to investigate a noise at her front door about 10am yesterday.
While one of the men distracted her by asking for an unknown person, the other man broke into the house through the back door.
The second man rummaged around upstairs before accosting the woman downstairs and demanding money.
The men stole several hundred dollars before fleeing in the woman's two-door 1998 Honda Prelude VTIR.
Police found the offenders had also tampered with other properties in the right-of-way where the woman lives, leading them to believe the robbery was opportunistic.
The offenders have been described as either Maori or Polynesian, aged between 20 and 30.
Police have called for information about who the offenders might be and where they can be located.
They have also called for sightings of the woman's stolen car, registration number DPD488.
