Auckland will have its first Pride parade in more than a decade this afternoon.
The floats, marchers and spectators return to Ponsonby Road, 12 years after the demise of Hero.
One of the big changes is gay members of the military have been given permission to take part.
Members of the police are not allowed to march in uniform, because their bosses are worried about perceived conflicts of interest.
Parade co-ordinator Jonathan Smith says those who are taking part are ready.
