Firefighters are continuing to battle a large scrub fire on Great Barrier Island.
The fire has charred 116 hectares near Claris Airport, with 40 hectares still actively burning.
Fire chief Bryan Cartelle says strong easterly winds are not in fire crews' favour.
However, he says 40 firefighters will maintain the pressure on the perimeters today.

Cartelle says they will continue the mop-up operation just opposite the airstrip, where there were flames the other day.
He says it is looking better but crews are not taking their foot off it at this stage.
