An Auckland barrister accused of driving drunk and carelessly has denied the charges.

Satendra Prakash Singh, 60, entered not guilty pleas when he appeared in Auckland District Court this morning.

The Fijian-born lawyer was stopped by police on Church St, near his listed address in the Auckland suburb of Onehunga, on July 15.

He was charged with careless operation of a vehicle and driving with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.

He is due back in court on January 30.
