Police are investigating a bomb threat in central Mount Maunganui.

The post office, Diamond and Co and Beach Legal, all at 155 Maunganui Rd, were believed to have been closed and cleared.

A police Northern Communications Centre spokesperson said a topless male had been causing a disturbance in businesses and police were looking for him.

A Bay of Plenty Times caller said they believed a man had walked into a shop, taken off his clothes and left a package which he said was a bomb.
