The mother of a 3-year-old girl found running down a busy road in Masterton in the early hours of last Saturday has been granted name suppression.
The 27-year-old woman appeared in Masterton District Court today charged with leaving a child under the age of 14 years without making provision for their supervision or care.
The girl was spotted by a member of the public on Opaki Rd about 12.15am on Saturday.
She had escaped the house by pushing a high chair up against a back door to unlock it, and gone looking for her mother.
The woman was bailed to reappear next month.
Police prosecutor Garry Wilson told the court that police would oppose name suppression after that date.
