Roads around the South Island are still blocked by snow, as high winds lash parts of Southland and Otago.
State Highway 94 Te Anau to Milford Sound remains closed due to snow, while restrictions are in place for Arthur's Pass and Porters Pass.
The Clutha District Council said a number of rural roads in high country areas remain impassable due to snow, including roads in Slopedown/Owaka Valley near Clinton, Hillend-Mt Stuart, Waipori, and Mahinerangi.
Meanwhile southwesterlies are forecast to continue battering the lower South Island, about the Catlins, Clutha and Dunedin, with gusts up to 120 km/h about exposed areas.
MetService said these winds of this strength could topple trees, damage powerlines and unsecure structures and can make driving hazardous.
