Colourful striped beach chairs erected in lower Queen St yesterday offered Aucklanders the perfect opportunity to relax and soak up some rays.
For the first time, the busy section of the CBD's main road was closed to create a giant car-free bustling sports park.
People could try football, squash, cricket, badminton, netball, gym skills, cycling, zumba and aerobics at the free family Playing in the Park event - an initiative of the Committee for Auckland's Future Auckland Leaders programme.
There were also demonstration games, experts on hand to give tips, free bike maintenance, as well as contests and competitions.
Grassy picnic spots were on site for when it all became too much and a sit-down was needed.
