An ATM machine has been stolen from a Northland petrol station in an armed robbery early this morning.
Police said at least three offenders arrived at the Caltex Service Station in Kawakawa around 2.50am, and used a firearm to threaten the lone service station attendant.
A silver station wagon reversed into the building to dislodge an ATM machine from the wall.
The ATM has then been placed into the vehicle and the trio drove off.
A burning vehicle was later found on Pipiwai Road near Kaikou which police believe was the vehicle used in this robbery.
The offenders have left the scene of the burning vehicle in another, unknown vehicle.
Kaikohe Police would like to hear from anyone with information about the incident. People should call the Criminal Investigation Branch at Kaikohe on 09 405 2960, or CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
