Bail has been denied for an Auckland man, charged over injuries sustained by two young pedestrians in Manurewa last week.
He was arrested after a car ploughed into two girls as they walked along the footpath on Wordworth Rd on Thursday evening.
Police confirmed the car was speeding.
The girls, aged 8 and 11, were thrown into a nearby garden by the force of the impact.
Both were admitted to hospital, one into intensive care at Starship, but both were expected to recover.
The man appeared in the Manukau District Court early this afternoon, facing four new indictable charges - driving while disqualified, failing to stop when a person was injured, and two charges of causing bodily injury while driving a vehicle and intoxicated over the legal breath limit.
He was remanded in custody and was granted name and image suppression until his next court appearance on Friday, to allow time to inform his extended family.
