Homicide investigation launched in Lower Hutt

Lower Hutt Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a 24 year old man, after an incident in Pomare last night.

Officer in charge of Lower Hutt CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell says Police were notified of an assault which had occurred at around 9:20pm, on High Street, Pomare, between Taita Drive and Peck Street.

"From our enquiries so far, it appears the victim has been involved in an altercation with a group of people. As a result of an assault, the victim sustained serious injuries and has been on life support. Sadly, he died at around 3pm this afternoon."

A 17 year old Lower Hutt man has been charged with assault in relation to the incident.

"We are wanting to speak to a group of people who were in the area at the time of the incident last night. We also want to hear from anyone else who may have either witnessed the incident or anyone who has any information in relation to it.
