Auckland police are praising a woman who followed another driver for 30 minutes after seeing the driver allegedly crash into another vehicle then flee the scene.
The woman called police after seeing the crash in Te Atatu this afternoon, Inspector Kerry Watson said.
She also saw the driver allegedly stop and buy alcohol at a liquor wholesaler.
The good samaritan tailed the driver for half an hour before a police patrol stopped the suspect, who was apprehended and was assisting police with their enquiries, he said.
Mr Watson said this was a great example of someone going the extra mile to do the right thing and help others.
Police relied on timely information from the public, he said.
