Jury retires in case of man accused of injuring cop

The jury in the trial of a man accused of injuring a police officer after attempting to drive a police patrol car away from a police drink-drive checkpoint has retired for the night and will continue its deliberations tomorrow.

The jury started considering their decision at 11.50am on the second day of the trial of Jamie Alan Sinclair, a 23-year-old labourer, on a charge of injuring the officer while trying to get away in the $40,000 patrol car. He has admitted taking the car.

Christchurch District Court Judge Phillip Moran asked the jurors by note at 5.35pm if they wished to go home overnight, and received a reply after 6pm saying that they did.

They will resume their deliberations from 9.30am on Wednesday.
