Gas leak in Wellington

Firefighters are attending a gas leak in the Wellington suburb of Tawa after a contractor broke a gas main.

Fire Service Central Communications shift manager Chris Dalton told NZPA the incident happened in Main Road about 4.35pm. There were about 30 houses nearby but no one was being evacuated.

As well, a nearby petrol station was in no danger, he said.

However, the road would remain closed until the leak was repaired.
