Police pounce on Facebook post

Police investigating the killing of Feilding farmer Scott Guy and the theft of three puppies from his property have made inquiries about a dog found wandering an Auckland street.

Two identical chocolate Labradors walked on to university student Larissa Naidoo's Middleton Rd home in Remuera on Thursday morning.

The 21-year-old says her mother was contacted by police eager to speak with Miss Naidoo, soon after she posted pictures of the dogs on Facebook.

Scott Guy, 31, was gunned down on his driveway after he got up for milking on July 8.

Police revealed on July 21 that three Labradors, worth about $700, had been stolen from an outbuilding near where Mr Guy was shot, and investigators were trying to establish a link between the theft and his murder.

Miss Naidoo said as her partner Owen was leaving for work he saw a puppy walk on to their property. He went back inside to tell her as the couple also have a Labrador.

"About 10 minutes later another Labrador wandered over. They looked exactly the same. It was a bit suspicious, they had no collars or tags."

Miss Naidoo said one dog soon ran off, but she took the other inside and posted a photo of him on Facebook.

She eventually phoned a friend who works for animal control, and he took the animal away.

Police were alerted to the Facebook post and that evening contacted Miss Naidoo's mother. "Mum called me and said 'Are you selling a dog? The police have just called and they're interested in the dog.'

"I said 'Wow, you've got to be kidding'.

"They initially wanted to talk to me as soon as possible but when my mum said I no longer had them, they moved on to animal control."

Police spokeswoman Kim Perks was unable to confirm last night whether the pup had been seized from animal control, but said the "Scott Guy investigation team has made a number of inquiries in relation to chocolate Labrador puppies".

A grieving Kylee Guy spoke publicly for the first time about her husband's killing on Friday.

Her appeal for information had prompted a steady flow of calls from members of the public, Ms Perks said.

Meanwhile, the son of murdered schoolteacher Lois Dear is among a number of people offering rewards to those with information on Mr Guy's killer.

Scott Guy investigation head Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger said yesterday that 19 offers of rewards had been made and they had been discussed with family.
