Two women were threatened by a man armed with a steel pole during an aggravated robbery in Hastings yesterday.
The robbery happened about 12.30pm at the Southland Road Superette.
Detective Martin James said the man, armed with a steel pole, entered the shop and threatened two women attendants before taking items from behind the counter area.
An undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
Mr James said the women were not physically injured, but both were shaken by the incident.
The man, who was last seen running east on Murdoch Road toward Railway Road, was a Polynesian in his late twenties.
He was of very solid build and about 1.9m in height. His hair was brown and curly, with blond highlights, and he was wearing a bulky black jacket and cargo pants.
Mr James said police wanted to hear from anyone who could identify the man.
