Former sports broadcaster Tony Veitch today admitted a charge of reckless disregard causing injury while six assault charges against him were dropped, bringing to an end a case which began in July last year.
2008
7 July – Newspaper reports said TVNZ and Radio Sport broadcaster Tony Veitch allegedly beat former girlfriend Kristin Dunne-Powell in 2006. Veitch said he was taking legal advice.
8 July – It was announced Veitch would not be appearing on television or radio again that week. Veitch and his employers continued to refuse to comment on allegations he secretly paid Ms Dunne-Powell more than $100,000 to stay silent after an attack at his St Heliers house in 2006.
9 July – Veitch held a press conference at which he admitted "lashing out" and blamed the stress of holding down two high profile jobs.
10 July – Veitch was suspended by Radio Sport. Police had yet to receive a formal complaint.
11 July – TVNZ dropped Veitch from its Olympic coverage. The Herald estimated the payout to Ms Dunne-Powell at $170,000.
14 July – Veitch gave an interview to Paul Holmes in the Herald on Sunday in which he talked about a "terrible incident" which he had regretted ever since.
17 July – A formal assault complaint was laid by Ms Dunne-Powell against Veitch.
15 August – Police searched Veitch's home. A police spokeswoman said police executed a search warrant on a Herne Bay address and that Veitch and his wife Zoe Halford were home and cooperated fully.
18 August – Veitch was charged with six charges of assault and one count of injuring with reckless disregard. He vowed to strenuously fight the accusations.
7 September – It was reported that, following a search, Veitch was found at Mangawhai, north of Auckland, and was taken to Auckland Hospital for medical treatment.
21 November – Veitch was in talks with RadioWorks, owners of B-Sport and RadioLive, about a comeback to sports broadcasting.
2009
11 January – It emerged that Veitch's wife called police to help search for her husband while the couple were on a Christmas and New Year break. He was found on a nearby beach.
15 February – It was announced Veitch was to make his TV return on Murray Deaker's Sky TV show.
1 March – The Herald on Sunday was hit by a police search warrant to get a tape recording of the interview he gave to Paul Holmes.
3 April – Reports that Ms Dunne-Powell was to leave New Zealand were denied.
15 April – News breaks that a plea bargain was likely and that the case would be resolved.
16 April - Veitch admitted reckless disregard causing injury while six assault charges were dropped. He was sentenced to nine months supervision, 300 hours community service and a $10,000 fine.
