Blue Chip co-founder to fight resort charges

The co-founder of the collapsed investment company Blue Chip today confirmed he will fight seven charges relating to his management of a luxury resort near Auckland.

Not guilty pleas were entered at Auckland District Court on behalf of Mark Bryers, 51, in relation to his management of Swordfish Lodge, a resort on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula near Auckland.

About 60 further charges were laid today against Bryers under the Companies Act, mainly relating to failure to keep adequate books and records.

Another 60 charges which were set to be laid were withdrawn.

Bryers' bail will continue and he will reappear in Auckland District Court in May.

An estimated 2000 investors lost money after 22 Blue Chip-related companies failed, owing more than $80 million.
