Petrol prices have risen for the second time this year, on the back of continued weakness in the New Zealand dollar and higher prices for petrol in Singapore.
Prices have gone up by 5c a litre to $1.429 for 91-octane petrol, and to $1.479 for 95-octane petrol.
"It'sa combination of a fairly substantial increase since the start of the year in the price of petrol on the Singapore market, which is the benchmark used for pricing in New Zealand ... and the depreciation of the New Zealand dollar, of course," Mobil spokesman Alan Bailey said.
What competitors did with pricing was also important, he said.
"We aim to be competitive at the end of the day."
Gull will not change its prices today, but will review them tomorrow, a spokesman said.
The price of diesel was unchanged.
Petrol companies raised their prices by 5c a litre on Wednesday, the first time since July 7.
