The connections of champion trotter Lyell Creek have adopted a better safe than sorry attitude to the Interdominions in light of the foot and mouth outbreak in the Northern Hemisphere.
That is why the freak was not withdrawn from the entries for next month's Interdominions when second payments were made yesterday.
Originally Lyell Creek's trainer Tim Butt was going to not make the payment as Lyell Creek had been comfirmed to head to Scandanavia in April for a series of races in May and June.
But with foot and mouth having spread from England to France and now imported cases reported in Dubai, Butt is keeping his options open.
"It sounds like we won't have any problems going to Scandanavia because they have never had foot and mouth there," said Butt.
"But just in case something like that happens and we can't go we have decided to keep him paid up for Brisbane.
"That way he we have to cancel the trip he can race at the Interdoms before heading to the United States.
"That would work out better than him going to the States and sitting their idle because there are no real races for him there until June anyway.
"But we are still planning to be leaving for Sweden mid-April."
Lyell Creek will have a workout at Pukekohe on Sunday.
