Holidaymakers thronged Northland beaches soon after the sun came out and the winds died down following the stormy weather.
Lifeguards at Whangarei Heads, Ruakaka and Mangawhai were on hand as people took advantage of the pleasant weather to swim and enjoy their paddle boards and boogie boards.
No rescues were reported over the weekend.
There were between 380 and 400 people at Ruakaka beach
yesterdayand on Saturday.
Patrol captain Tania Ahrens said there were a lot of holidaymakers enjoying the tail-end of their break before heading back to work.
At Mangawhai, at least 100 of the 300 beach-goers, including surfers, took to the water yesterday. There were no water-related incidents but lifeguards attended to a man who suffered cuts to his head after a fall.
Ocean Beach attracted between 80 and 100 people yesterday and a similar number on Saturday when a surf competition took place.
Deputy club captain Josh Maxwell said the bulk of people were sunbathing and swimming.
