We might be the winterless North, but we are also the current hotspot for rain.
More rain and wind are on the way to Northland this week, with a succession of depressions sweeping across the country, Metservice reports.
The largest amounts of rain are likely tomorrow and Friday, Metservice meteorologist Rob Kerr said.
Wednesday is expected to be a the day of respite, as a narrow ridge slides across New Zealand, bringing lighter winds and a return to sunshine for most, he said.
However, a rapidly deepening low over the Tasman Sea brings a band of warmer and moisture laden air from Thursday into Friday, returning more strong winds and heavy rain.
This rain follows Northland's second wettest winter on record, according to MetService forecaster Georgina Griffiths.
About 840mm of rainfall fell this June-August, compared to the wettest winter on MetService records, which was in 1946 when 1050mm fell in three months.
