A Northland man has died after a crash near Taipa this morning.

Police say the single-vehicle crash occurred on rural Paranui Rd, inland from Taipa, about 9am.

The deceased was the sole occupant of the vehicle, which left the road and rolled, and was found shortly afterwards by another motorist.

He was trapped in the car and died at the scene.

Family members travelled to Paranui Rd to be with him.

The Whangarei-based police Serious Crash Unit have carried out a scene examination.

It was one of two fatal crashes around the North Island this morning. Another person died in a two-car collision on State Highway 5 between Taupo and Rotorua at 7.40am.

Police, St John Ambulance and the Mangonui Fire Brigade attended the accident.

The man's name will be released once police are confident all nest of kin have been informed.
