A TWO-NIGHT Carnival stage show next month is expected to be a glamour event with talented Northland singers and dancers performing for audiences dressed to the nines and sipping champagne.
Performers were yesterday rehearsing for the show, organised by the SMAC Dance Studio, which will be held in Forum North at Whangarei on November 6-7.
The Carnival starts with a 35-minute nostalgic piece titled Miss Monroe Musical, a mix of theatre, lyrical and classic jazz containing lots of song and dance routines.
A segment called "Lights, Camera, Action" is billed as "a montage of modern video-clip styled danceworks". A high school musical montage will also feature in the show.
There will also be a modern contemporary piece titled Hinemoa that tells the love story of Hinemoa and Tutanekai through dance set to music mixes by Tiki Taane.
Singer Kawiti Waetford will appear in the show, which will be staged at 7.30pm on November 6 and 7 with matinee performances at 2pm and a special school show at 11am on November 6.
SMAC choreography teacher Susan McDiarmid said schools would need to book for the school show, which will have gold coin donation admission. The Ticketec office in Forum North is handling all bookings.
"There would be many units of work that teachers could tie in with students' studies, such as nostalgia in Miss Monroe and culture and heritage in Hinemoa," she said.
Ms McDiarmid said the carnival would offer the audience variety, with audiences at the night performances encouraged to dress up and make a night of it with champagne and nibbles.
