Veterinarians who certify the processing of meat for export are free to begin a strike at the end of this week.
The Employment Court this morning rejected a claim by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) that the vets' union was not properly registered. The Attorney-General and MAF had been seeking an injunction to prevent the planned strike.
The ruling, delivered by Chief Judge Tom Goddard in Wellington this morning, also has the effect of recognising the legitimacy of another 19 unions that were registered before the Employment Relations Act came into force.
