Motorsport: Dixon off the pace as Power wins

Will Power has claimed his fourth win of the IndyCar season with victory in Sunday's Edmonton 300.

The Australian crossed the line 0.8089 of a second ahead of team-mate Helio Castroneves for his second victory in this Canadian city.

Power's win also cut the margin between him and championship leader Dario Franchitti, who finished third, to 38 after he came into the weekend trailing by 55 points.

A late splash for fuel cost Power's Australian team-mate Ryan Briscoe a fourth place finish, dropping him back to 10th by race's end.

New Zealander Scott Dixon finished down the standings in 23rd place after starting third on the grid. He was rammed by Venezuelan driver EJ Viso 30 laps into the race and was forced into the pits, rejoining the race six laps down.

Power's big break came after he overtook pole sitter Takuma Sato on the final turn of the 2.224 mile City Centre Airport circuit to claim the race lead.

It was a welcome change of fortune for Power after failing to finish the past two races, with Sato making an error and missing the apex of the turn to allow Power past.

A move after a restart on lap 29 of the 80 allowed Power to pass Alex Tagliani, the Canadian driver Power labelled a "wanker" after the Toronto race two weeks ago, and secure the lead for the remainder of the event.

The next race is another road course event, the Indy200 from Lexington, Ohio on August 7.
