Road sealing crews have begun working along stretches of SH5 between Napier and Taupo and motorists can expect travel delays up to five minutes.
The work is being carried out at sites between Bay View and Tarawera and temporary speed restrictions have been put in place along with stop/go signalling.
Similar work is being carried out at sites along SH2 north between Napier and Wairoa as well as in the Morere region and speed restrictions and signalling are also in place there.
Motorists using the northern stretch of SH2 will also come upon drain clearing crew at various points, and these too will cause slight delays to travel time.
On SH50 between Kereru and Takapau seal work is being carried out with restrictions in place.
Between Omahu Rd and Roy's Hill on the same highway power pole replacement work is under way and the road shoulders have been closed off, with occasional speed limits in place.
At the two major roading works being carried out in the region delays to travel would be "negligible" a New Zealand Transport Agency spokesperson said, although motorists were advised to drive through the areas with care.
A new roundabout road layout system is in place at the SH2 intersection with Watchman Rd at Westshore while speed restrictions are in place around the major Whakatu arterial system.
Work is well advanced on the project which is the largest of its kind in the region since the construction of the Napier-Hastings Expressway in 2002.
The 3.5km route starts at SH2 near the Napier Rd intersection and will run across countryside through Whakatu to Pakowhai Rd, at the entrance to Pakowhai Country Park.
The link will include three large roundabouts - one at each end and one at Whakatu - and a 45m long bridge over the Karamu Stream at the Pakowhai end.
The construction kicked off back in January and is scheduled to be wrapped up by December 2018.
