Despite the plug being pulled on Napier's contraversial multi-use sports facility, its $500,000 business case, and allocated funding may be put to good use - with an expansion of Pettigrew Green Arena on the cards.
A Napier City Council meeting tomorrow looks to signal the end of the contraversial $22.9 million facility, with councillors recommended to stop progress on the facility's business case until "such a time that community recreation projects are prioritised and sequenced in the future".
The facility was to be located at Pettigrew Green Arena. Despite scrutiny over the viability of a velodrome included in the project, it was hoped the indoor court space it would provide would meet growing demand.

However the council's recent move comes after Sport New Zealand raised questions about the council's $500,000 business case into the facility.
