A 75-year-old woman admitted to Hawke's Bay Hospital with a significant brain injury on April 15 died on Friday morning.
The woman was a resident of Camberley in Hastings and lived in a block of flats alongside other mainly-elderly residents.
Detective Sergeant Craig Vining said while the incident was not currently being investigated as a homicide police were continuing to "explore the circumstances" leading up to April 15 and what factors, if any other than medical, may have contributed her injury and resulting death.
Mr Vining said there were no safety concerns for the community.
