The art of a good cellar door personality for Lime Rock Wines owners, Rosie Butler and Rodger Tynan is crucial to making a good impression.
"Simply being yourself, making the visitors feel good, showcasing our wines and enabling on-going sales" is the key to success for the husband and wife duo.
New Zealand born Rosie and Australian husband, Rodger returned to Central Hawke's Bay in 2000, planting the vineyard in 2001 and picking the first fruits in 2004.
The cellar door opened during that same year and they have been open ever since, with business going from strength to strength.
The boutique Vineyard's cellar door, which is run predominantly by the wine-maker Rosie and vit-ecologist, Rodger, sees people from all corners of the world seeking a taste of Lime Rock Wines.
Rosie said business was booming, with the unique experience at Lime Rock attracting visitors.
"visitors are always impressed by what we have and do. They meet us and hear our story. We take visitors on a drive to the top of our vineyard to see the different niches within our vineyard, the amazing view and the hand-work that we do with all varieties."
Mrs Butler said the industry's cellar door was very important to selling the product, as it "showcases their high quality product and creates a demand."
"When people come to the cellar door, they like to relive the pleasurable experience, bring visitors, buy wine to put them in a good place. We make good friends through this."
The Hawke's Bay wine industry, in Rosie's eyes is world-class.
"Visitors are impressed that Hawke's Bay has so much to offer with our range of varieties and vineyard aspects. No other NZ wine area does it so well, with small and large wine companies."
At 10 hectares, it may be small in vineyard terms, but it regularly wins recognition for its wine.
Varietals which don't stay on the shelves too long include Pinot Noir, Pinot Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, as well as Grüner Veltliner, which was awarded the trophy for the top 'Premium White Varietal' at the Hawke's Bay Wine Awards 2016.
The Cellar Door is open from October to the end of February.
