A drive-off petrol theft in Napier today didn't end the way a group of young offenders intended it to.
The group, understood to be around five of them, drove into the Mobil Service Station in Taradale Rd shortly before noon and filled up with about $40 of petrol but tried to leave without paying.
The attendant scuffled with the group as they tried to leave and the call was quickly made to police.
A police spokesperson said a car had been stopped a short time later on the motorway "in connection with what happened".
No other details were available at this stage.
The station remained open and staff carried on working.
Mobil Taradale Rd had been the target of a robbery back in August when a machete-wielding man walked in and demanded cash and cigarettes.
He later needed three stitches to an arm would inflicted by the 19-year-old robber who was later tracked and arrested.
The station had also been targeted by a lone robber back in November 2013 who demanded cash.
