A jury trial is resuming in Napier today of a man accused of "sadistic" offending against his former girlfriend.
Timothy Hebberley faces 29 charges at the High Court, including injuring with intent, sexual violation, kidnap, intimidation, rape and threatening to kill.
The Crown alleges the 20-year-old branded his teenage partner with hot wire, intentionally dislocated her limbs and locked her in a small room with an aggressive dog for two hours.
He is also accused of threatening to do grievous bodily harm to the woman's father on the day the relationship ended.
Hebberley's lawyer, Scott Jefferson says his client had not done any of the alleged offences and had simply reacted to the woman's intimidation.
The trial is expected to run into next week.
