Thousands of voices filled the Waiapu Cathedral of St John the Evangelist in Napier, for the end of the Big Sing 2016 Regional Festival.

"It was electric in the cathedral," NZCF The Big Sing East Coast Co-ordinator Glenys Kempshall said. "It was great to see so many teams having so much fun, and enjoying singing."

With 32 choirs from 16 secondary schools around the East Coast competing, 1000 students sang at the Waiapau Cathedral of St John the Evangelist in Napier over two nights for the festivals gala performances.

The 2016 NZCF East Coast Winning Choir was awarded to the Woodford House Chapel Choir. Their director Tess Tobin also received an award.

The Adjudicator's Award went to the 88-person Gisborne Girls High School Choir, while Colla Voce from Havelock North High School, Iona Pure and Ceilidh Choir's from Iona College, Ad Lucem from Napier Girls High School, were also awarded for their choral prowess.

The directors award went to Chris Atkinson from Hastings Girls High School.
