THE HUSBAND and wife team at the helm of artisan dairy company Origin Earth have scooped a raft of prizes at the 2016 New Zealand Champions of Cheese Awards.

While the math might seem off, owner Richard Williams and wife Joanie managed to pick up 12 medals despite entering just 10 cheeses.

Of their 10 entries, every cheese attained a medal, while two - Origin Earth feta and Origin Earth smoked sheep cheese were awarded champions of cheese (best in class overall) making the medal haul an even dozen.

Other medals amassed were three gold, three silver and four bronze.
It's an impressive haul, given there were about 450 cheeses vying for a spot on the winner's podium.

"Much of the praise really needs to go to Joanie and her team," Richard said. "The hard work of the crew is really the reason we can do this."

Joanie says the wins were a team effort. "It's a testimony to the whole team and their dedication to turning quality cows' and sheep milk into value added, quality dairy products."
