Meningococcal disease is thought to have claimed the life of a Hawke's Bay teenager.
Jarrod Lindsay, 19 died on September 15 after a short illness.
He was a passionate stockcar driver and was part of the Hawke's Bay Hornets Superstock team.
The team caused an upset on the track in April beating the more experienced Hawke's Bay Hawkeyes.
At the time, Lindsay said: Words can't describe this. You can win races, you can win championships but nothing beats winning a teams race with three mates."
The team was coached and managed by retired Hawkeye Paul Demanser.
Lindsay went to St John's College in Hastings and was farewelled at a funeral service at the Clive rugby and sports clubrooms. He had been living and working in Palmerston North at the time of his death.
His case was not thought to be linked to the three children who recently became ill with the disease in Hawke's Bay.
