Police still haven't identified a body found in central Napier last week, despite an appeal to the public.
A man was found dead in a Napier alleyway last Monday morning. His death is not being treated as suspicious.
Detective Sergeant John McCarthy said an appeal for help had so far proven fruitless, after fingerprints failed to identify the man. "We've had no calls. We're still in the dark."
It was "not usual" for it to take so long to identify a body, he said.
The man was described as possibly Polynesian or Maori, aged in his 50s or 60s. He was of solid build, about 1.78m tall with grey, receding hair and a grey goatee.
He also had two distinctive tattoos: A snake wrapped around a skull and sword on one arm, and a line of narrow squares on one hand.
He was wearing a dark blue jacket, jeans and brown suede walking boots. Anyone with information about the man should phone Hawke's Bay Police on: 06 211 3810.
