Inmates of Hawke's Bay had the opportunity to run away from the officers yesterday - and it was all legal.
It came during a Chasing Sun Rays duathlon in which Hawke's Bay Regional Prison inmates, staff and other community members ran, walked and cycled to support White Ribbon Month.
The event promoted White Ribbon's "It's not OK" message against domestic violence, with campaign champion Vic Tamati among those present, along with representatives of Victim Support, for which the event heped raise funds.
But any chance of a slick getaway for the residents was out of the question. The duathlon took place on the prison field and on static spin bikes, provided by organisers of IronMaori, the half-ironman event which will attract hundreds of visitors to Napier next month.
